Lights, Camera, Traction: Media Students Capture Commercial Vehicle Heritage (18th March 2025)
Over the last couple of weeks, we have had the pleasure of welcoming Level 2 Creative Media Students from Runshaw College to the Museum.
Students were tasked with producing a video production as part of a client commission, creating media materials for their final production project and developing their interview skills.
The design brief given to students outlined that the theme for their projects was ‘The Big Story of Big Vehicles’, through which they would explore the history of commercial vehicle manufacturing and production and the town of Leyland.
The Stars of the Show…
Prior to their visits, students were provided with an information pack containing key information relating to each of the Museum’s exhibits. Each group selected a vehicle to focus on, with productions centring on:
The Ford Model T
Leyland Lioness
The Popemobile
The Leyland Hippo
The Foden Steam Wagon
The Leyland TX450
The Thornycroft Steam Van
The Edinburgh Horse Bus
This information pack was also utilised by students to help devise some brilliant questions such as how their chosen vehicle represented the technological and design innovations of their time period… which were then put to members of our volunteer team.
